Owensboro personal care homes founded on service

Owensboro is home to two personal care facilities that are part of the oldest and largest personal care chain in Kentucky.

Fern Terra and Fern Terrace belong to a family of personal care homes founded by Jack Simpson in 1963, with service as the founding principle. Simpson, now 85, loved playing sports, especially basketball and tennis. He even incorporated sports into his motto: “Operating a personal care home is like tennis. You cannot win until you learn to serve.”

Fern Terra offers the finest in assisted living

Fern Terra is located on a beautifully landscaped 4-acre campus along the Ohio River. The picturesque scenery of the location extends to the interior of the building, with elegantly appointed commons areas.

Residents at Fern Terra love the spacious living areas. Fern Terra offers furnished or unfurnished one, two, or three bedroom apartments ranging from 860 to 1,600 sq. ft. with 9 ft. ceilings. Each apartment includes a complete kitchen, two or three closets and large handicap-accessible bathrooms. Residents are able to personalize their suite with their own furniture and decor.

Fern Terra residents rave about the exceptional food and dining services. Chefs who are trained in the country’s finest kitchens prepare meals using only the freshest ingredients. Special requests are welcomed and may even end up on the menu. Dining at Fern Terra is a culinary adventure!

The beautiful grounds of Fern Terrace provide a setting unmatched in Owensboro, with eight acres of fountains, flower beds, blooming trees, beautiful wildlife, and numerous walking paths. Swings and benches allow residents a peaceful setting to enjoy the sights and sounds of activity on and along the Ohio River.

Menu selections in the dining room change daily – from homestyle favorites to soups and sandwiches.

Residents can gather in the living area for a variety of entertainment and recreational activities. An activity director plans and organizes fun-filled days for Fern Terrace residents, including regularly scheduled day trips. A leisure room is available for private family gatherings.

Commitment to service

Jack Simpson’s commitment to service carries on. At 85, he still comes to the office every day, guiding his sons Darin and Rob, who for many years have been actively involved in all aspects of the company.
